4.4 Converting to SDR

In this video, I will show you three ways of deriving an SDR-version from your HDR grade;
using the Resolve Color Management, and also the built in Dolby Vision iCMU.

Summary

When delivering only in SDR, some colorists suggest that you should still grade in HDR first, and then convert to SDR using the Dolby Vision iCMU in order to achieve the best results (rather than to grade directly in SDR).

One way to convert from HDR to SDR is to change the output settings in the RCM, along with trim-adjustments.

The automatic Dolby Vision iCMU analysis can provide great results when converting from HDR to SDR.

Remember to set output blanking if you have visible black bars when using the iCMU for an SDR conversion.
